This week, work on reducing your sugar intake! So many want to quit soda, stop eating sweets, and encourage healthy eating behaviors in children – and now is the perfect time to start!

While some sugar in your diet is acceptable, there is only so much that our bodies can handle. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans consume FAR too much sugar. When too much sugar is consumed we have to worry about the following:

  • Sugar is addictive.sugar
  • Sugar (not fat!) causes weight gain when consumed excessively.
  • Sugar is toxic to the liver.
  • Cancer lives on sugar.
  • Sugar consumption is linked to a great deal of mental and physical diseases.
  • Eating sugar negatively affects brain functioning.
  • Sugar depresses the immune system making you more vulnerable to sicknesses.
  • Sugar is inflammatory to your body, which creates susceptibility to chronic illnesses.
  • Most sugar is now genetically modified (unless it specifically says “cane sugar” on the label).

You CAN make changes to your sugar consumption without sacrificing your sweet tooth; however, it might take a little detoxing to start! You can also check out the recommendations linked here for safe sugar consumption… just remember to ditch those sugar-sweetened beverages – even the zero calorie ones, which might not have calories, but do cost you in the health department. When you are looking for something sweet, try using raw, organic honey instead.
